Spencer Paige

Spencer has been involved in martial arts nearly his entire life.  Throughout his youth he trained Zen Do Kai Karate and earned his black belt.  He was introduced to grappling and submission fighting by Al Duquette who owned Duquette Submission Fighting in Nicholville, NY where he also earned a black belt in the DSF system.

After relocating from the North Country to Cortland, Ny, Spencer joined team Bombsquad (now Ithaca, NY) and began his professional mixed martial arts career at 20 years of age.  Spencer, 8-2 professional mma, won the Untamed: Full Force Production’s lightweight title at 155lbs before moving to featherweight at 145lbs and winning that title, as well, in 2007.  In 2010, Spencer was featured on season 12 of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV as a member of Team GSP Georges St. Pierre.   This opportunity gave Spencer the chance to train with some of the top mixed martial artists and BJJ instructors in the world!

Spencer spent two years in Buffalo training at Buffalo BJJ before moving back upstate.   It was during this two year period that Spencer was exposed to authentic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and developed the desire to exclusively train jiu jitsu.  Currently a blue belt, he is affiliated with IBJJF certified Team Evolution (Headquarters in Montreal, Canada).   (http://www.artsmartiauxevolution.com/.

After nearly a decade away from home, Spencer is excited to introduce Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to the North Country and provide a safe environment where students can learn self-defense and get a great workout!

Chris Pryce

Chris is a graduate of Madrid Waddington Central School. He received his Associates Degree in Cyber Security from Herkimer County Community College and his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from Potsdam State University. Chris recently returned to Upstate New York after spending nine years living in Rhode Island with his wife and children, where in that time he worked as a Sales Manager, a Community Safety Officer for the Warwick Police Department, and performed as a magician.

Chris began his journey in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2010 and currently holds the rank of Purple Belt. He is employed as a New York State Corrections Officer and his background in BJJ has served as a benefit in his career. Although Chris is in love with the sport aspect of BJJ, he is a strong believer that children, women, and men of all ages and abilities should learn the art for self-defense purposes. Chris feels that BJJ influences a heathy life style, a great sense of self confidence, respect, and team work. He welcomes all students equally, with respect for their views and knowledge. Chris is very happy to be part the North Country Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu team and hopes to see you soon.
